VISIONARY GROWTH
Today’s Tri-County Business Campus (TCBC) and Pottstown Center result from the redevelopment of an old abandon 85-acre site at the corner of Shoemaker Road and Route 100 in Pottstown PA. Robinson Clay Products previously occupied the site to extract raw materials used to manufacture terracotta pipe. Local residents commonly knew the site as “The Pit,”. (Read More). Purchased in 1985 by TCBC in response to the opening of the newly expanded Route 422, original development efforts included the completion of Robinson Street to Shoemaker Road, a subdivision of all the available lots, and the construction of two (2) light industrial/flex buildings.
Today the site is home to Pottstown Center, Tri-County Plazas 1 and 2, a 45,000 square foot light industrial/flex building at 60 -76 Robinson Street (one of the original structures, which was created from the remnants of the eight (8) kilns that previously existed here) and, Motel 6. In addition, lots within the subdivision were sold to Friendly’s, the Comfort Inn and various other business entities under a set of restrictive covenants to maintain a standard for the appearance of the structures within the campus.
In 1991 TCBC entered into a joint venture with what is currently known as Longview Development to create Pottstown Center. The Center currently includes a Walmart Supercenter, Aldi’s and Michael’s as it’s anchor tenants, with Rent A Center, Aaron’s Rents, Sally Beauty, Dollar Tree, Cash Converters and others making Pottstown Center and TCBC one of the prominent discount centers in the area. TCBC currently retains ownership to nearly 500,000 square feet of leasable retail, light industrial/flex and hospitality space at this location.
